Back in 2013, in a drive to encourage more English householders to extend their properties, the Government decided to make it easier for them to build larger extensions without planning permission.
It gave people an automatic right to extend a terraced or semi-detached home with a single-storey rear extension by up to 6 metres, or detached house by up to 8 metres.
Deeming the move a success after around 110,000 people took advantage of the rule change, the Conservatives have recently announced that these rules will now permanently remain in place.
This should come as music to your ears if you are looking to expand your property with an extension within these size limits.
You won’t have to submit a planning application to your local authority (something that currently costs £206), and you won’t have to wait 8-13 weeks to find out if your planning department approves the extension or not.
All you have to do is inform your local authority of the building work so that they can let your neighbours know about your plans to give them the opportunity to raise any concerns or objections.
If any concerns or objections are received by your local authority, it will then be up to them to determine whether the construction of the extension can go ahead.
Extending is also far more inexpensive than moving – you won’t have to pay solicitor fees, removal fees, estate agent fees. And, it’s a lot less stressful too.
When you appoint a Residence Collection installer, they will custom-build you an extension that satisfies the relevant size limits and make sure you don’t feel any strain throughout the whole process.
One of our beautifully crafted extensions will add serious value to your home and eliminate the potential heartache involved in taking yourself away from friends and family.
