The Residence 9 brand has become synonymous for its premium window system designed to replicate the 19th Century Flush Sash Timber Window.
What we’re a little less known for is our bespoke orangeries which similarly offer a traditional appearance and contain various elegant period features. They’re a sophisticated alternative to the traditional conservatory.
If you’re relatively unfamiliar with orangeries, all the questions you wanted to know about them are answered here.
How can you identify an orangery?
They have a large, plastered flat roof with a roof lantern, solid brick pillars and very large windows throughout their design. They also use more brickwork than a conservatory. The brickwork is usually specifically selected so that it mimics the brickwork used in the original building to help it look like a natural extension, rather than a retrospective extension.
When were the first orangeries developed?
They can be dated back to the 17th Century when they were typically constructed at the lavish properties of members of the aristocracy. Their chief purpose back in those days was to protect oranges and fruit trees throughout the winter, but technological advancements led to the orangery being predominantly used as a unique additional living space.
Can I have input in the design?
It can be when you opt for a bespoke orangery from Residence 9. We allow you to choose from a range of traditional colours and an impressive range of hardware options so that you can really make your mark. You can also have French doors integrated into the design if you want to unite your extension and garden in summer.
How can I use an orangery?
The world is your oyster so far as utilising the space is concerned. It’s a great place to put your feet up when you want to unwind after work or it could be transformed into a luxury dining room for all those special occasions. Those with kids may fancy letting their children treat it as a playroom or if you want to save on gym membership, make it your own personal exercise area.
Why should I buy one?
We could go on forever about why you should invest in an orangery, but here are just a few reasons why:
- The value of your property will rise
- Your home and garden will never have felt closer together
- You will get endless pleasure from it
- If you ever decide to sell your property, the orangery will make it more appealing to buyers
