The Residence Collection gives The Prince of Wales apartments a new lease of life with premium doors and windows upgrade.

The Prince of Wales apartments located in Scarborough have recently undergone a major refresh, breathing new life back into the building with The Residence Collection’s premium door designs. Using the seven-chamber R7 door system has maintained the Grade II listed building’s original aesthetics, without compromising on performance.

While it took just over a year to gain planning permission for this richly historic property, the results so far are already proving worth the investment. With 36 apartments set to be transformed using Residence 7 in Grained White with double glazing and a 28mm square bead, work has already commenced. Ten sets of outward-opening French doors with 20 sidelights, and three single doors with sidelights have been fitted to perfection and are ready to maximise their full performance potential.

Robert Penny, Owner of Bobby Penny UPVC, and installer on the project commented: “We always enjoy working with the team at The Residence Collection. Our expertise in installing the R7 door system has so far played a key role in the renovation of The Prince of Wales.

“Being the people responsible for turning the chosen specification and designs into the finished product, it’s really important that every element of the system is precisely fitted. By doing this, the doors will not only reach their optimal performance, but also receive their maximum possible lifespan.

“The main objective from the project was to ensure the key elements from the building’s authentic design were replicated perfectly. This was something we successfully achieved, delivering outstanding results.”

The Residence Collection was specifically chosen to replace the doors and side frames throughout The Prince of Wales, as its authentic aesthetics provided a seamless match to the original timber features. The main frame features mechanical joints, securely connecting the individual components, while the Timberweld sash joint offers a consistent finish to the opening sections.

The R7 specification also complemented the sash windows, establishing a cohesive look across the property. With planning requirements calling for Residence Collection products to preserve the building’s original character, there were no other alternatives that could deliver the same combination of quality, aesthetics and authenticity.

Originally, there was a tight one-year deadline to fit out the building. However, because residents were not living in the apartments full time, accessibility issues arose, so the agreement was reconfirmed and the schedule was extended to three years to complete all work. Utilising high-quality materials to help create R7’s internal and external structure was another crucial factor involved in the renovation process for The Prince of Wales.

Jo Trotman, Marketing Manager at The Residence Collection, commented: “This project is a true representation of how quality takes time, but the results speak for themselves. Bobby Penny is still in the process of fitting this year, and then the remaining windows and doors will be completed by next autumn.

“The Prince of Wales apartments will not only showcase beautiful, traditional designs that complement the history rooted throughout the building, but they’ll also perform to the highest standards, helping to preserve its character for years to come.”
