A New Chapter for a Timeless Farmhouse

When the timber windows at Simcoe’s Farm reached the end of their life, the homeowner wasn’t looking for a replacement. They simply wanted to restore what was already there, preserving the character, charm and history of this beautiful original timber property.

A repair seemed the obvious answer. But when the specialist arrived, it quickly became clear that the windows had sadly deteriorated beyond repair. Faced with the prospect of losing the traditional character of their home, the homeowner was introduced to an alternative that offered the best of both worlds.

Shirestone Windows Ltd recommended Residence 9 from The Residence Collection, providing a window sample so the homeowner could see and feel just how closely the timber-alternative system captured the look and detailing of the original windows. It proved to be the turning point in the renovation.

Working alongside fabricator Leamore Windows, Shirestone Windows transformed the property with 25 Residence 9 windows and a set of French doors, creating a sympathetic update that feels as though it has always belonged there.

Designed around the elegance of 19th-century timber architecture, Residence 9 brings together authentic heritage styling with the advantages of modern PVC-U. At Simcoe’s Farm, that meant preserving the character of the property while introducing a high-performance, low-maintenance solution for years to come.

The attention to detail continues throughout the installation. Two Residence 9 sash windows feature Painswick on the exterior and Chalk White internally, complemented by elegant gold Pear Drop handles. Mechanically jointed frames and 28mm glazing units complete the traditional look, while delivering the performance expected from a modern window system.

The result is a renovation that doesn’t attempt to rewrite the history of Simcoe’s Farm — it simply gives it a new chapter.

Robbie Stone, Managing Director at Shirestone Windows Ltd, said:
“It’s fantastic to see this beautiful heritage property restored to its former glory. Choosing Residence 9 windows means the aesthetic of the property has remained, while the homeowner can benefit from the performance of a modern window system. We’ve enjoyed working with The Residence Collection on this project, and hope to do so again in the future.”

Jo Trotman, Sales and Marketing Manager at The Residence Collection, comments:
“We were honoured to be chosen to help restore the timber aesthetic using our Residence 9 products. It is always amazing to see our timber-alternative windows and doors keeping the heritage, 19th-century aesthetic going on projects that need renovating.”
