Confusingly, there is no one single standard door size. Instead what we have is a number of the most common door sizes that are found in homes in England and Wales.
Reassuringly most suppliers will have this range of sizes in stock, measured in the standard height x width x depth dimensions below:
1981 x 610/686 x 35mm – handy for doorways where there is restricted wall space / as in a kitchen or bathroom.
1981 x 762 x 35mm – this is the most common ‘standard’ door size for internal doors in England and Wales.
1981 x 838 x 35mm – known as a 2’9” door, this one provides a width suitable for wheelchair access.

What are the standard sizes for doors in the UK?
Doors in Scotland.
Metric-sized internal doors are becoming increasingly popular and are most commonly used in Scotland and Europe. The main difference is an increased door height of 2040mm and door thickness of 40mm.
Common sizes are 2040 x 526/626/726/826/926 x 40mm.
Front door sizes.
The most common exterior front door height in the UK and Wales is 78 inches (1981mm) while the most common width is 30 inches (762mm). External doors must be at least 40mm thick, but the most common thickness is 44mm. (These standard door sizes are also available as fire doors, the difference being these have an increased thickness of 45mm.)
Internal door sizes.
The standard door height for an internal door in the UK and Wales is 1981mm, which is 6’6” or 78”, while the standard door width is 762mm, also known as a 2’ by 6” door.
Fire door sizes.
This will depend on the rating you need. FD30 (30 minute) fire doors are 44mm thick, while FD60 (60 minute) are 54mm thick. You can have fire doors in standard UK and metric door sizes, the only difference being an increased door thickness of 45mm to accommodate extra core component materials that give the door its fire rating.
Accessibility.
According to the UK government, the minimum clear opening width for a wheelchair accessible door is 775mm. Standard sized wheelchairs are between 24 and 27 inches, so a disabled access door should be at least 825mm in width, or 32.5 inches to allow for easy manoeuvring.
