What colour door is lucky?

You might choose a red front door because you like the colour red, so what’s luck got to do with it? Well now that you’re asking, quite a lot, according to feng shui and Vastu shastra.

Feng shui is the ancient Chinese belief that energy flows through everything, including your front door. The colour you choose for your front door will affect how the energy flows around your home and influences your life, your family, and your opportunities.

Vastu shastra, on the other hand, is an ancient Indian science of architecture and buildings said to help create a better way of living by working with the same five elements of nature and their energies as feng shui through the principles of design, layout, and measurements.

Both feng shui and Vastu shastra works with the five elements of nature: wood, fire, earth, metal, and water, each of which is said to involve a different kind of energy.

At this point you might simply decide to walk away and get on with your life… or you might just decide to read on a bit in case there’s actually something in lucky colours.

The best front door colours for luck, according to Feng Shui.

Red

A powerful colour and a bold statement that gets you noticed, red is connected to the fire element, representing warmth, passion, and inspiration.

Black

Absorbs, attracts, and brings in positive energy, so another good choice. Connected to the water element which supposedly represents wisdom and depth.

Brown

Feng shui says that brown is connected to the earth element to bring balance, stability and support to you and your family.

Yellow

As you might expect, yellow is said to bring bright energy to your home. Also connected to the earth element, yellow has similar properties to brown.

Green

In feng shui green is connected to the wood element, new beginnings, growth, fresh opportunities and personal expansion.

White

This colour represents cleanliness and purity. Connected to the metal element, white is related to precision, communication, and joy.

Blue

This colour also represents the wood element, whose qualities support growth and new beginnings. Deeper shades of blue represent knowledge and self-improvement.

The best front door colours for luck, according to Vastu shastra.

In Vastu shastra, as in feng shui, the colour of your door is an important luck factor, but so is the direction your door faces.

Yellow is a good colour for southwest facing doors, while northeast facing doors should be blue, with western facing doors blue and white. (And it’s best to avoid south facing entrances altogether.)

Green is good to go for a northern facing front door colour, with white and cream for a northwest facing door, and light blue or white if your door faces east.

As with feng shui, Vastu suggests that red hits the spot to promote power, creativity and good fortune, while black signifies power and authority in some cultures and but bad luck in others.
